The obligatory plug.. the easiest way of course, is to search multiple stores at once for college textbooks here at BookHq!, failing that...
College textbooks are one of the biggest expenses for college students. Hence, BookHq has
gathered a set of tips and tricks to help you save your money. For the dollar savings indicated below,
we assume a $250 college textbook shopping trip. The biggest savings tips are shown first going down.
- Save up to 100% ($250). No one says this is easy but it's possible. 2 ways..
Trick A: Buy used college textbooks (from your friends) & sell them at the end of term. You can buy and sell for virtually the same price. The
only risk is that the book you used won't be used again next term.
Trick B: Use library copies. Get several friends that do not take the same class to borrow the textbooks alternately & return the favor. (this gets around the time limits)
- Save up to 80% ($200). Be willing to look for USED TEXTBOOKS. Typically they are listed at 25%-75% of retail.
Look out for listings in your local bulletin board, newsgroups and of course, on the web. Half.com for instance
has a thriving user-to-user college textbooks exchange. And yes, BookHq also lists used textbooks.
- Save up to 80% ($200). Use a book price comparison engine! Where? well, you're looking at one!
BookHq has a powerful price comparison engine specifically for books and yes,
it will work just as well for college textbooks. In fact, because of the high prices for college textbooks, you typically save a substantial amount just by searching first.
- Save up to 60% ($150). Buy EARLY and from the UK. The UK? yup. For some college textbooks / books,
buying from the UK can save you LOTS!. Shipping takes a few more days but it's worth the savings!
For example, try this search for Power System Analysis And Design (With Cd-Rom) by J. Duncan Glover & Mulukutla Sarma (isbn:0534953670). In the UK, the price comes to about USD46 (35 Pounds) vs the list price of USD115.95. You just saved $70! That's quite a few meals.. (and this book is new too.. so you can sell it to your friends for A PROFIT)
- Save 15%-40% ($37.5 - $100). Use coupons and watch out for deals. $5 off coupons are common but you can
find 10/15/25 ones occasionally. Free shipping ones are also reasonably common & are worth about $15-20 on $250 worth of books. Also, make sure to visite different stores specializing in college textbooks such as eCampus and Barnes and Nobles. Of course, you can just use BookHq, so why don't you? Try it out, search for the college textbooks you need and save! BookHq.com
